Where Are You Now?

Where Are You Now?

They told the City, "get out of here"

Angry lady comin', and she's madder than she's been in years

They told the people, go as far as you can go

But I can't hear their voice across the river

They don't come cross the river

Voice so loud in the Quarter, where the busses wait outside

We've got nowhere to get out, got nowhere to hide

And the levee's comin' down

Jesus, where are you now?

Swallowed by the river, it's washing everything away

I'm worried about my family, Jesus, got no time to pray

So I hope that you can feel me

My body's sinkin' lower as I watch the water rise

My world's disappearin' right before my eyes

Water rising so fast, so high, so fast

I'm afraid I'm gonna drown

Jesus, where are you now?

There's children floatin' by, with panic in their eyes

But I'm clinging to this rooftop and I've gotta watch them go by

I can't reach my hands out

I've lived life as a Christian, I've always said my prayers

I kept your Ten Commandments

Jesus this don't seem fair

But I know you've got your reasons

They're screaming to me, I can't bear the sound

Jesus, where are you now?

The water keeps on risin', Jesus when's it gonna stop?

Those children couldn't make it out to this rooftop

So I hope that now they're with you

Jesus how you going to find me, my neighborhood is gone

Is this what it felt like, up on that cross?

I finally understand you

I see you reachin' down, Jesus

I see you reaching down, Jesus

I see you reaching down
